Saint Jean du Gard, le Petit Train et le Musée Cevenol

Saint Jean du Gard is a lively small town on the banks of the Gardon river, hosting the biggest summer market in the whole of the department, every Tuesday morning (all year), an additional night market on Thursday in summer and a farmer's market every Saturday morning in high season. There is also a brocante market every Friday morning in high season.

The station marks the start of the famous "Petit-Train" - a steam engine ride which takes you to Anduze but you can stop off on the way to visit the Bambouseraie.

2017 marked the opening of the new Musée Cevenol at the Maison Rouge in the town. You will find an impressive collection of artefacts, stories and explanations of life in the Cévennes before the closure of this last silk mill (Maison Rouge) in the 1960s. It stands in a beautiful location on the banks of the Gardon river and you can wander around the garden where there is an exhibition garden of wild plants used by locals for medicine, household uses and as food. This garden was set up with the expert direction of the famous Alain Renaux - a local Professor of Ethnobotany who wrote "Le Savoir en Herbe - Autrefois, la Plante et l'Enfant". Maison Rouge - Musée Cevenol
